The February 2023 Playlist: SPC Sounds #7 was assembled by our good buddy and sweet sweet soul, Knarly Gav. He’ll be in town March 9th-12th at @bigfishtattoo, so give him a follow at @knarlygav, shoot him a dm to book a spot, and give his tunes a listen! Link in our profile. 🎧
"Hi! My name is Gavan. I am a tattoo artist from NYC by way of South Carolina. I love the beach and the ocean. I love playing music and painting pictures. Tattooing is everything to me. It’s become a part of me in a way that the ocean has."
It’s been a while since we’ve posted a new playlist, so to start the new year we wanted to get something hot, fresh, and tasty out to ya. Here are some of the sounds that have filled the shop over the last few months. Go on an auditory journey with us. Happy New Year.
SPC Sounds 5 | Michael Bridgmon
The June 22 playlist was dreamed into existence by Oakland based artist, Michael Bridgmon. @jameswavey June 2022
The April 22 playlist was assembled by, Nick Southard of We Are Stellar.
“My endeavor into metal and stone began with a lapidary class at a local Gem and Mineral club. I had always been into stones and the thought of transforming rough/raw materials into beautiful gems, combined with the mystery of never knowing what was truly “in there” had me absolutely hooked from the first class. It wasn’t long after that first class that I acquired lapidary equipment of my own and began piecing together metalsmithing tools. I made pieces of jewelry for myself and my friends at first. Slowly, more and more folks were hip to what I was doing, and as they say, “The rest is history.” What started as a hobby, ok… maybe an obsession, developed organically into what my business is today.”
The March 22 playlist was assembled by, Jake Smith. Drummer of the Ohio based band, The Worn Flints. AKA: My Little Bro. He and his wife were in California to escape the bitter cold of an Ohio winter, so we asked him to set the musical mood of the shop for March.
He didn’t add any of his band’s music to the playlist, but I went ahead and did it for him! The last song on the list is one of my favorite Worn Flints bangers. Give the rest of their tunes a listen and follow them on IG at @thewornflintsagram
The February 22 sound selections come from our buddy, Austin Zito of Zito Hat Co. He's been designing fully custom hats by hand since 2016, and recently opened up his own shop just down the street from us in Leucadia. Hit the link in our bio for his cowboy-curated playlist.
"My goal is to draw inspiration from the two places I call home, Austin and Encinitas, and combine the effortless style of Southern California beach culture with the western grace and freedom cultivated in Texas to inform my own personal style of hat-making I like to call Beach Cowboy. I grew up skating, surfing, and riding vintage motorcycles. I believe in always dressing up and self-expression through personal style. I have long been obsessed with the idea of curating your “uniform”, which I define as the outfit you would wear if you could only have one outfit for the rest of your life. Though I've never managed to settle on mine, I do hope that my hats become a part of yours!"
- Zito
Every month we’ll be sharing the sounds that have filled our space.
When you’re designing a brand you can do anything, but you can’t do everything. These are the sounds we used to set the tone for our aesthetic while we built SPC. Groovy, beachy, vintage vibes.
