Who are you and what have you been creating lately?
I am Darnay Luckie and currently a Cosmetology is my art form.
Lately, I have been helping my clients create a sense of confidence and authenticity through their hairstyle.
Where are you from and how does it influence your art?
I’m from Carlsbad, Ca. Community and people influence my art. This area is comprised of a lot of physically active individuals as well as a lot of creators and entrepreneurs. All of which are influential in different ways. Witnessing people push themselves to the limits physically in an athletic sense as well as not letting fear be a limiting factor in a creative and entrepreneurial sense. In any case, there is a sense of Knowing that you have no choice but to trust yourself and go for it, which is inspiring!
It’s a beautiful place to live as well, surrounded by nature and conscious individuals.
What is your creative process?
Being inspired by others, trying new things and different forms of art. Being present in the moment and allowing energy to flow.
What piece are you most proud of?
As a cosmetologist, I am most proud when I have a client that is becoming who they truly are which may be different from societal norms. During conversation through out the process, I get to witness them breaking down barriers that held them back from showing their truest self. That moment when they look in the mirror for the first time as an authentic representation of who they want to be, is the most rewarding part.
How do you define success as an artist?
I define success as never giving up, being present in each moment and accentuating beauty that already exists.
